About this artwork

A time-worn brick faces diagonally in the middle of the composition. Thick impasto layers of red, brown, green, blue, and yellow give the subject a tactile quality. I found this brick in a pile outside my home, says artist McGarren Flack, and I wanted to capture it as a portrait, rather than as a still life.
