Artist Statement
In my art, I have distinct goals. My primary aim is to convey atmosphere and personality, whether in portraits or landscapes. I want to express the emotions I perceive in the subject or the scene, be it the warmth of a summer day, the tranquility of a forest, or the emotions within the subject themselves. A hallmark of my work is the play of opposites, a dichotomy that defines my style. While watercolors are inherently light, I explore their depths, balancing extreme light with the darkest shades. This interplay mirrors the complexities of life and is a consistent pursuit in my art. If I don't foresee this balance, the subject doesn't pique my interest. It's the extremes of contrast that breathe life into my paintings. I embrace challenges in my art, actively seeking them out. These challenges may arise from intricate details, complex atmospheres, or unconventional colors. Conquering these difficulties fuels my artistic growth, and the lessons learned in one painting carry over to the next. This continuity underpins my body of work despite the diversity of subjects. Even in the face of failures, I find value. Unsuccessful pieces serve as vital learning experiences, never discarded but held up alongside my successful works for comparison. These comparisons help me dissect what works and what doesn't. Ultimately, the most fulfilling reward is sharing my successful creations with others. There is no purpose in creating anything if I don’t intend to share the results of my skills and creativity.
