Karen Hansen | Artist Profile Photo
Karen Hansen
Burbank, California
Artist Karen Hansen’s abstract paintings are an exploration of color. "They are meant as resting places, uncluttered oases from our hectic, complex world," shares Karen. She always knew she wanted to be an artist, and her parents nurtured that dream with plenty of crayons, paints, and paper. Over the years, she channeled her creativity into various roles, from window dressing to toy design and animation. Now, she paints in a cozy bedroom studio filled with art materials, books, and her beloved, paint-splattered easel—loving the short commute just down the hall. Outside of painting, Karen enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, playing with ingredients for fun, and tending to her garden, a haven for native plants and local wildlife.

Artist Statement

My paintings are atmospheric abstractions of meditation and memory. They are meant as resting places, uncluttered oases from our hectic, complex world. They are portals to the rhythms and the quiet mysteries of our lives and our search for deeper connections in our human experience. These serene, understated paintings, with their subtle complexity, are layered translucently in search of radiance, nuance, depth, and elegance. They evolve through a process of improvisation, experimentation, revision, and intuition.
