Sally Adams | Artist Profile Photo
Sally Adams
Shelby Township, Michigan
Artist Sally Adams paints ethereal scenes with intimate simplicity and clarity of expression. "I only paint the core components necessary to convey an emotional connection," says Sally. Since she was a young child, she has always had an innate affinity for being outdoors. Spending time with nature is where she finds peace, and it reminds her that beauty can be found anywhere. Sally finished a graphic arts degree and pursued a short career as a graphic artist and ceramic tile artist but soon realized it was painting she wanted to do. "Pickledog," her home studio in Michigan, is an ode to her beloved furry companion of 15 years. She keeps her space open and bright; if the sun is out, the space fills with the best light. Sally finds music essential, as is the time she spends outdoors before creating. Sally encourages her three daughters also to develop their creative passions. Often, she works at her daughter's studio, UGallery artist Drew Noel Marin, a skilled artist like her mother.

Artist Statement

I have loved art and creating it for as long as I can remember. My favorite Christmas gift was a set of oil paints when I was 15…I still have the metal case and use some of the original brushes! After raising three beautiful daughters, a six-year diversion into ceramic clay work, and a day job as a graphic artist, I'm now back to painting!

My studio namesake and companion of 15 years, Pickledog, passed on in November 2021, but I know his lively spirit is never far from me as I go about my days. I will remember him getting me up and going every morning reminding me that a good breakfast and a daily walk with Mother Nature are essential for raising endorphins and clearing the mind to create. We found inspiration and stimulation in the sights, sounds, and fragrances on these adventures!

I continue to take my camera everywhere as my paintings are directly or indirectly influenced by the pictures I take. I’m grateful every day that I can spend my time doing what I love. I'm fortunate also, to have a network of supportive friends and a wonderful family. With all that said, I hope you find something here that moves you in a way that it originally moved me to create, or simply - you love it so much you can’t live without it!
