Suzanne Massion | Artist Profile Photo
Suzanne Massion
Hampshire, Illinois
Artist Suzanne Massion captures the natural beauty of Illinois through her impressionist plein-air compositions. Dedicated to preserving the state’s landscapes before they are lost to development, she also donates a portion of her sales to local land conservation efforts. "When the land changes, my paintings will remind people of the way it once was," says Suzanne. A pivotal moment in her life came when she met a visiting professor from Beijing, who inspired her to leave her banking career and pursue a creative path. Suzanne now works in her neat, well-lit home studio, located just off her home’s entrance, while listening to Mozart, Native Hawaiian, and Cajun music. Outside of art, she enjoys cooking, bird-watching, and dancing.

Artist Statement

When the land changes, my paintings will remind you of the way it once was. Driving the back roads through tall grass prairies and farmland, I will see something that makes me stop. I set up my easel to paint en plein air, the challenging but rewarding action of painting out in the open. An old barn, a grassy trail, a country road, a quiet river, all these subjects find their way onto my canvas.
