About this artwork

A colorful scene of a busy street in San Jose, Costa Rica on a hot January morning. One of the fascinating things about San Jose is the contrasts between the old and the new, says artist Leroy Burt. This renovated diner with a large, faded, peeling sign on the roof from a previous tenant is a perfect example. Across the street is a modern brightly colored skyscraper. After retirement, Leroy spent six months in Costa Rica and took hundreds of photographs there, inspiring this painting.
