About this artwork

When snow dusts the top of Mt. Diablo - a giant in the landscape of the eastern San Francisco Bay Area - there is great excitement in the air, says artist Catherine McCargar. The snow doesn't last long, so I brought my equipment together for a frigid plein air painting of the mountain while it was still partly white. I liked the way the light snow mingled visually with the grassy foothills, making them appear to be a soft aqua blue. Catherine then finished the painting in her studio from her observations.
