Mt. Fuji Sonification (Soft Synesthesia)
About this artwork
This work is an image of Japan's Mt. Fuji embedded with digital noise from the sound of the area. I use an audio visual synthesizer to process sound captured at the mountain to produce an image of the sound specific to the space. That sound image was then used to distort the original photograph.I then had the image woven withmuseum-quality dyed thread on an industrial loom. It is stretched over heavy duty stretcher bars and comes ready to hang. The tapestry is an image of a place and its sound. In the detail images, you will notice hints of color throughout this monochrome composition. The work is framed with a matte black wood canvas floater frame. It is 2'' deep with a 3/8'' face and 5/16'' of space between the art surface and the frame face.
