About this artwork

Darlene McElroy creates a nude portrait of a woman with emerald butterflies concealing her body. Framed within an ornate window, she reaches delicately for a golden lock. We shut ourselves within a gilded cage even though it is within our power to fly away, says Darlene. We don't seem to realize that we hold the power of our freedom or restrictions. Darlene incorporates vintage items, elegant patterns, and gold tones for a dynamic touch.
