About this artwork

Artist Melissa Gannon created this piece as her interpretation of High Rocks Canyon in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. Thousands of wagons traveled through here on the Applegate trail and indigenous people have lived in this area for thousands of years, states Melissa. She rendered this piece with a layered technique starting with an acrylic base. She then added a watercolor ground and suspended acrylic inks above. Finally, she painted layers of acrylic. The result is a richly layered color full of vibrance.
