About this artwork

This painting is a study the artist executed after a trip to Italy. It is as much about the setting as it is about the sitter's portrait. The artist saw this busker playing his accordion in Florence and decided to change the setting to one of the labyrinthine streets of Venice. Despite the effects of time and the elements, both the sitter and the backdrop of Venice have aged gracefully and with an undeniable elegance.
