About this artwork

Artist John Kelly paints a realistic portrait of a nude woman partially concealed by a white gossamer skirt. John uses sprays of dappled sunlight to create a complicated composition that employs deep and cool shadows. The pictorial plane is tilted, suggesting an ambivalent emotion that is zeroed in on the eyes of the model, says John. She stares at the viewer in a challenging way as if questioning their right to enter her world.
