About this artwork

Provocative hyperrealist oil painting created with breathtaking detail. Artist David Shepherd explains that he used the glass surface in this piece as a light spectrum to create the colors on the woman's face. She's licking the spectrum glass as a metaphor for our natural attraction to knowledge and science, he says. We yearn to increase our knowledge and better our place in the universe. We are naturally attracted to science to find what was already there.
