Sanctuary
About this artwork
The right panel of this diptych where three secondary colors are applied, radiates protective quietude that leads to our inner sanctuary, says artist Shyun Song. She explains of her clean, minimalist oil paintings, As an intense observer, I am interested in mythology and psychology. Whenever I come across a concept that sums up an element of psychology, I start sketching. I use geometric shapes and lines which I have found versatile in illustrating abstract concepts. When I transfer the sketch to a canvas, I still improvise and make specific color choices until I feel satisfied. Since my paintings begin with intangible concepts, I take the title of each painting as seriously as the aesthetic value of the piece. I believe that titles which resonate with our universal experience in life can create a deep human connection between an artist and the viewer.
