About this artwork

After seeing photographs and numerous depictions of the famous Motif No. 1, artist Faye Vander Veer went to Rockport, Massachusetts to experience its vibrant seaside scene firsthand. The painting features the iconic red fishing shack on a sturdy granite wharf. The ladders lean against the stone structure and lead to the clear, inviting water. The smaller structure extends in the distance, where locals and tourists enjoy the picturesque surroundings. Sailboats dot the horizon under a bright blue sky, while seagulls soar. The overall atmosphere radiates the charm of a summer day, where one can hear the calls of the birds and the crashing waves.
