About this artwork

California's Big Sur vistas are studies in contrast. Even on days when the coastal cliffs are socked in with fog, a 180 degree turn in perspective from a mountaintop may reveal a gorge bathed in sunlight. Here the valley of the Big Sur River shimmers below the switchbacks of the Buzzard's Roost Trail while outriders of the marine layer harry its sunny flanks.
