About this artwork

Manhattan Beach is an iconic small town on the coast of southern California. It harks back to the original surfer hangouts that dotted the West Coast. Colorful buildings slope down to the pier that juts out into the blue Pacific. The shadows of tall palm trees speckle the sun baked street and parked cars. John uses heavy body acrylics with multiple layers to achieve the bold and rich colors.
