About this artwork

When asked about the character in this expressionist portrait, artist Darlene McElroy shared that, he is pausing on a walk through changing leaves to savor the moment, enjoy the colors and to catch a glimpse of the butterflies before their migration. Darlene adorned the figure with images of summer - birds, plants and stylized suns. In a way, he acts as the allegorical usher between the seasons.
