About this artwork

Artist Alana Clumeck created this painting as a symbolic depiction of her experiences in the first few weeks of the COVID-19 shutdown in California. With little human interaction for weeks, the hummingbirds in my garden were my friends, she says. At night, my son and I would howl at the moon, like wolves in the wild. And with the borders closed to access my homeland, I left space in the painting portraying the mountains between my family in Australia and me.
