About this artwork

Two children lean into the composition, looking out past the viewer. The expressions of each eye are different, and each tells a different story, says artist David Shepherd. In an effort to create this hyperrealist oil painting, David first shot the scene using a macro lens on his camera. It helps create a great feeling of depth. The eyes contain completely perfect detail while in the background the ears and the sides of the heads have very soft edges, and are diffused. A spectrum of light from optical glass was used to create the colors on the children's faces. I use this technology for beauty and to pay homage to science.
